The Archway for the Jack the Ripper calligram is made up of many different elements. The top two tiers “Welcome to the East End” is in reference to where the murders took place. The third tier says “The Canonical Five” in reference to the five women that were confirmed to be killed by The Ripper (Mary Ann Nichols, Catherine Eddows, Annie Chapman, Mary Jane Kelly, & Elizabeth Stride). The bottom tier is the place and year that the murders took place, London 1888. Ripperology (the top-bottom tier) is a term given to those who study the Jack the Ripper Murders. The rest of the brick is filled in with text from the newspaper articles about the crimes.
